JAKARTA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he has nothing to do with the Attorney-General's Chambers' decision not to continue with the prosecution of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's corruption case in court.
The Prime Minister said the A-GC has full authority over the case, and it had also provided an explanation on the matter.
"The Attorney-General's Chambers has full authority on this, and it has also provided an explanation," he told reporters after the 'Temu Anwar Jakarta' at a hotel here on Tuesday night.
On Monday, the High Court granted the deputy prime minister a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) of 12 criminal breach of trust (CBT) charges, eight counts of bribery and 27 for money laundering, involving scores of millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akal Budi.
The AG-C, through Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, applied for the charges against Zahid to be dropped at the onset of the hearing that day.
When the court grants a DNAA, it means that the accused is discharged from the current charges without being acquitted of the charges.
On a separate matter, Anwar said the 43rd Asean Summit and Related Summit decided that the Philippines will chair Asean in 2026, taking over Myanmar's slot for chairmanship that year.
"Next year, Laos will be the chairman, and this is followed by Malaysia. Myanmar was supposed to take over after that, but we reached a consensus (in our Asean meetings) that due to the ongoing internal issues in Myanmar, continuous atrocities there, we have decided for Philippines to take over.
"Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr agreed. This is a positive development," said Anwar.
On Thursday, Indonesia will hand over the Asean chairmanship to Laos who will host the summits next year.
On the issue of undocumented foreign workers from Indonesia, Anwar said the Malaysian government viewed the matter seriously.
"Those without documents, we will handle it carefully. Those who have been detained, we will expedite the deportation process," said Anwar.
