Still no permit applied by 'Save Malaysia' rally organisers: KL police chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur police chief, Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said police have yet to receive any permit applications and official notice from the 'Save Malaysia' rally organisers that is slated for Saturday (Sept 16) at a shopping complex here.

"Under Section 9 of the Peaceful Assembly Act, it imposes a requirement for organisers to give a five-day prior notice of an assembly, till today- Wednesday- the five days period has expired but police have yet to receive any applications," Allauedeen said in a press conference.

Allaudeen mentioned that the police have made preparations in advance to manage the rally and protest which is expected to take place this Saturday.

"We would deploy a suitable amount of armed forces according to the situation on the day; right now we have no intention to have any road closures yet," he added.

Commenting on Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos calling on Red Shirts to demonstrate and 'protect' Malaysia from Perikatan Nasional (PN)'s 'Save Malaysia' assembly, Allaudeen said to media, "Let the police handle it."

Allaudeen acknowledged that the organisers have the right to call for an assembly, yet it is their responsibility to ensure the application is made ahead by following the rules and regulations.

"We have laws and regulations. It is the organiser's responsibility to apply according to the regulations and inform the police so that we could coordinate and facilitate."

"Remember that it is not only about the right of the organisers in calling for an assembly, but the right of other Kuala Lumpur citizens shall be taken care of too."

"It is a Saturday, a busy day where other people would want to move around, bringing their family members out for a walk, to the shopping mall etc. The police have to balance the interest of all," Allaudeen emphasised.

The PN Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari announced that a peaceful assembly will be held in front of the Sogo Complex this Saturday to protest the decision to discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi from 47 charges related to Yayasan Akalbudi last week.

Up to date, Allaudeen said the police have received a total of six police reports over the call on Saturday's assembly.

"Following that, an investigation paper was opened according to Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said.

Allaudeen mentioned Pasir Mas member of parliament Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, Machang member of parliament Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, Gombak Setia state assemblyman, Hilman Idham and a few more would be called for a statement.
