Roadblocks in KL not linked to PN rally, say city police

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have denied claims that roadblocks mounted at several locations in the city this morning were in anticipation of the "Selamatkan Malaysia" rally organised by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth Wing later today.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the roadblocks were part of an operation aimed at preventing crime and ensuring traffic compliance within the city.

Allaudeen, however, told FMT that police made adequate preparations to maintain peace and security, which included deploying officers to monitor the rally and responding swiftly to any potential disturbance.

He ruled out the possibility of deploying the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) as a precautionary measure during the rally.

Earlier today, rally organisers told the media that multiple roadblocks had been established during the day, including those leading from Melawati to Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2), from Jalan Ampang towards the city centre, and in Kampung Baru.

The rally is being held by PN to protest the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the Yayasan Akalbudi misappropriation of funds case.
