100 students suspected to have food poisoning at school in Bahau

JEMPOL: Around 100 students from a school in Bahau, here, are suspected to have suffered from food poisoning after experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting since last week.

However, Negri Sembilan Education Department director, Dr Roslan Hussin, stated that they are still awaiting the results from the district health office regarding this matter.

"Yes, there is indeed a case, but it did not happen all at once and it involves approximately 100 students. The incident is believed to have started from last Tuesday until Friday and the affected students have received treatment at a nearby clinic," he said.

He mentioned that the exact cause of the incident is still unknown at this point, whether it was due to food poisoning or some other reason. Roslan stated that the district health office (PKD) is currently conducting an investigation and they are waiting for the outcome.

Previously, rumours about this incident had spread on WhatsApp in Chinese text, involving primary school students. In the information exchanged, the school authorities emphasised that they take this matter seriously and that several safety measures have been implemented, including cleaning work around the school premises such as the toilets and cafeteria.

Therefore, parents are reminded to monitor the health of their children and seek further treatment immediately if there are related symptoms.

Meanwhile, Roslan stated that the school's academic session is proceeding as usual on Monday, and there is no instruction for a temporary school closure.
