KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty students from SM Teknik Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra in George Town, Penang were treated for food poisoning after they ate a tandoori chicken dish at the school last Friday.
Penang Health Department said 496 students and two wardens were exposed to the batch of food served for lunch on July 12 at the school canteen, according to an online portal's report.
The department's food safety and quality division said the canteen's kitchen has since been temporary closed under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, pending the investigation
However, it said none of the students were warded overnight.
It said the Northeast health office was still investigating the case, and samples of the food have been sent for laboratory tests and awaiting their results.
The authorities were also conducting further checks on the food handlers and school canteen.
