UiTM's clean up programme at all 34 campuses earns a place in Malaysia Book of Records

SHAH ALAM: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) earned a mention in the Malaysia Book of Records when 25,000 people took part in a simultaneous 'gotong royong' in all of its 34 campuses nationwide today.

Themed 'Us, Our Campus and Nature' (Kita, Kampus dan Alam) , the programme represented the varsity's aspirations to remain an institution for educational excellence set amidst a conducive environment.

UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Roziah Mohd Janor said the historic would help its campuses to be vibrant while enhancing cleanliness.

She said it was important for UiTM students, lecturers, administrative staff and the entire community at the varsity's campuses to forge closer ties among each other.

"Activities such as this one will instil a love for our campus. This is aligned with our target to create a campus which is in line with our sustainable development goals.

"A university is not just a place for acquiring academic knowledge. It also shapes the values of an individual. The cleanliness of a university is vital for enhancing the quality of education because it will create a more peaceful and comfortable environment for everyone," Roziah told reporters at the event's launch at UiTM's main campus here today.

She said the programme was also in line with the Higher Education Ministry's Conducive Ecosystem for the Public Sector (EKSA) policy, which is aimed at creating a conducive environment in delivering services to the public.

"The UiTM community has always been making efforts to uplift the university's reputation.

"We have around 160,000 UiTM students nationwide and the cleanup programme today involved the participation of 25,000 students. We hope to achieve a bigger participation in the future."

Roziah said it was important for UiTM to remain an exemplary institution, and said more record-breaking feats were in the cards.
