Kelantan drafts paperwork to solve long-standing water supply problem

PASIR MAS: The state government is drafting paperwork to solve its long-standing water supply problem.

State Works, Infrastructure, Water and Rural Development committee chairman Datuk Dr Izani Husin said the paperwork is almost completed and would be submitted to the federal government through Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB).

"It could not be denied that Kelantan has been facing a water supply problem but not in all districts. The problem only occurs in certain areas.

"Therefore, we decided to draft a paperwork that will include the direction for the replacement of pipes both comprehensively and in stages," he said.

Dr Izani was speaking to reporters at the launch of a new mini water treatment plant for Meranti by Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud here today.

He said further discussion on the matter would be held with Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) to ensure that the problem is solved as soon as possible.

At the same time, Dr Izani said the government has instructed AKSB to respond as quickly as possible to every complaint involving water services.

On the new Meranti water treatment plant, he said the state government had approved RM10.2 million for the project.

He said the new plant was an important project for the state government as it helped to supply treatment water to many areas especially in Meranti.

"This plant will use a new treatment system and we hope once the plant completed, it will channel treatment water to villagers in Meranti and its surrounding areas.

"About 4,300 accounts will benefit and they include villagers in Kampung Berangan, Kampung Kubang Chenak, Kampung Perupok and Kampung Tok Midin," he added.
