KUALA LUMPUR: The Local Government Development Ministry through the Town and Country Planning Department (PLANMalaysia) today has established the procedures and guidelines for the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Malaysia in order to assure an efficient charging bay (CB) infrastructure.
Its minister Nga Kor Ming said the guidelines and procedures planning (GPP) of EVCB was in line with the government's aim to install a minimum of 10,000 EVCBs nationwide by the year 2025.
"The GPP is to provide guidance to state and local authorities, as well as all parties involved in the planning, designing and overseeing developments.
"This is especially for the preparation of development plans and the consideration of planning permission applications and construction permits for ECVB.
"(And) as of Aug 30 this year, a total of 1,246 EVCBs have been constructed, with 1,007 alternating current (AC) charging units and 239 direct current (DC) charging units in operation at shopping centres, car showrooms, hotels and resorts for public use," he told a press conference in Parliament, today.
Nga added that the GPP also involved two main scopes, which included the requirements of the Fire Safety Guidelines for ECVB at premises, provided by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department; and the application and approval procedures for EVCB development to be aligned with Manual OSC 3.0 Plus.
He added that the guidelines of the ECVB also covered several aspects, including location and placement; required quantity; size; and the provision of the main electrical isolation switch, adding that charger point operators (CPOs) are encouraged to prioritise the development of EVCB outside of buildings.
"Meanwhile, for EVCBs that have already been constructed and are operational, CPOs must submit an application to the local authority within two years for legalisation, starting from the date the guidelines were issued.
"CPOs are also required to comply with the planning and fire safety guidelines provided by PLAMalaysia and the Fire and Rescue Department."
