GEORGE TOWN: In commemoration of the 74th birthday of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, three distinguished individuals stand at the forefront of the state's honours list.
The three are Public Service Department director-general, Datuk Dr Zulkapli Mohamed, former Penang High Court Judge Datuk Seri Tun Abd Majid Tun Hamzah, and Tenaga Nasional Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Indera Ir Baharin Din will receive the second highest award, the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN), which carries the title "Datuk Seri".
They are among 1,117 recipients of this year's state honours.
Penang State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang said Fuzi had agreed to confer 138 state awards this year, involving the DPPN, Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN) and Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN).
The DGPN carries the title "Datuk Seri," while DMPN and DSPN bear the honorific "Datuk."
Twenty-seven individuals will be conferred with the DGPN, 15 will receive the DMPN, and 93 will be awarded the DSPN.
"Seventy-four people will receive the Darjah Johan Negeri, 14 will receive the Bintang Cemerlang Negeri, 168 will receive the Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji, 298 will receive the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian, 399 will receive the Pingat Jasa Masyarakat and 26 will receive the Pingat Bakti Setia," he said.
Prominent figures set to receive the DGPN award include Federal Police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's secretary-general of the Ministry Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar.
Former Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abd Rahman, and former state executive council members Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, Phee Boon Poh and Chong Eng also received the DGPN award.
Among those set to be honoured with the DSPN are Penang deputy speaker Azrul Mahathir Aziz, former state executive council members Dr Norlela Ariffin, Soon Lip Chee, Yeoh Soon Hin, state Road Transport Department director Adenan Md Isa and former Rapid Penang chief executive Azhar Ahmad, who is now Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) CEO.
Law said this year's investiture would be divided into four sessions — Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday — at Dewan Sri Pinang.
He said the first session would comprise 213 recipients, followed by 310 in the second session, 302 in the third session, and 292 in the fourth and final session.
Fuzi celebrated his official birthday on July 8.
