NIBONG TEBAL: The Education Ministry will not bring back the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination despite requests by some stakeholders who want it back.
Instead, the ministry's focus now is on the proposed school curriculum for 2027, in efforts to develop a new school curriculum to strengthen the education system in the future.
Minister Fadhlina Sidek urged parents to focus on efforts by the ministry, which plans to hold a roadshow regarding this new curriculum.
"This is because we want to engage in extensive management to (get) inputs to strengthen the country's education system.
"What's more, right now we want to focus on holistic assessment of our children, especially their overall development, to ensure that their character (pupils and students) can be strengthened," she said.
She said this when asked about the request by some parents on social media who wanted the UPSR examination to be returned so that it could be used as a benchmark to determine the level of achievement of their children.
Fadhlina, who is also Nibong Tebal member of parliament, was present to inaugurate the launch of the Taman Angkat Amanita in Taman Pekaka here today.
In August, the Education Ministry ran a survey on the School Curriculum Implementation 2027 online as a step to develop a new school curriculum.
The new elements to be explored included character education, flexibility, and digital aspects.
Immediate action is taken to ensure that the teaching and learning process (PdP) and assessment are carried out effectively by referring to the levels set in the Curriculum and Assessment Standard Document (DSKP).
The government previously decided to completely abolish the UPSR starting in 2021 after discussions with various parties after the examination was canceled following the Covid-19 pandemic.
