BAGAN SERAI: Residents of Alor Pongsu, along with two Flood Evacuation Centers (PPS), were taken by surprise when a python, measuring over five meters in length and weighing more than 50 kg, was discovered after it swallowed a calf in Kampung Selekoh, here, yesterday.
The python was found by plantation workers who noticed it "floating and silent" in a plantation ditch, presumably after having its fill.
An APM spokesperson said that at around 11.21am, they received an emergency call via the MERS 999 hotline from concerned local residents.
A team of APM personnel promptly arrived at the scene and discovered the python, full from presumably having devoured a young calf, floating in a ditch within the palm oil plantation in Kampung Selekoh, Alor Pongsu.
"The plantation workers found the python while they were in the area, full and seemingly having just swallowed a mature calf. APM personnel immediately captured the python using specialised equipment and later brought it back to the office before handing it over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) in Kerian for further action," the spokesperson said in a statement.
The operation was successfully concluded at 2pm
