Taib Mahmud's sons take father to court in injunction order against stepmum

KUALA LUMPUR: The sons of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud are taking their father to court in an injunction order against their stepmother, Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib.

This follows an application by Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib and Datuk Seri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib to include their father as the third defendant in the suit on Monday.

The brothers also named Raghad and RHB Investment as the first and second defendants, respectively.

The Borneopost today reported Sulaiman's lawyer Alvin Chong raising the matter during proceedings before High Court judicial commissioner Alexander Siew How Wai today.

The plaintiffs sought an injunction over the transfer of shares of a private company – Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad to Raghad.

On Oct 6, the news portal reported that Sulaiman had challenged the authenticity of his father's signatures on some documents involving transfer of shares from a company to Raghad.

Lawyer Shankar Ram who appeared for Raghad objected to the claim due to its unfairness, as it was made without prior notice to the defendant to allow her to respond.

He said Sulaiman, who is also Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd group managing director, had no locus standi to file the application.

Sulaiman is the second son of Taib through his first marriage with Toh Puan Laila Taib, who passed away on April 29, 2009.

Taib married Raghad on Dec 18, 2010.
