Ministry, Info Dept to meet over appeal by Harakah regarding revoked media passes

KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Digital Ministry will hold discussions with the Information Department on the appeal by Pas' official mouthpiece, Harakah, on the revoked media accreditation passes for its reporters soon.

Its minister, Fahmi Fadzil, said he had previously requested that the department review the appeal letter sent by the publication, but has yet to receive any update on the matter.

"God willing, I will meet them (soon to discuss) the matter," he told reporters at the 2023 Customer Experience Summit organised by the Contact Centre Association of Malaysia (CAAM).

Fahmi had previously announced that the ministry welcomed the appeal letter by Harakah and said he would discuss with the department any decision to return the passes

This comes after Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari reportedly said the department, which falls under the purview of Fahmi's ministry, had revoked the media passes of Harakah's reporters.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said the department was also reviewing certain matters relating to the Journalism Code of Ethics, which was established in 1989.

Following this, he added, he would also discuss the matter with the department once the parliamentary session ends.

"I was made aware that the department is also investigating issues related to journalism ethics, where the code was established in 1989.

"However, time has changed and I assume that the department wants to improve on those guidelines.

"Hence, I will discuss with them on the matter in the nearest time, probably in December once the Parliament session ends."
