Jakim lifts ban: Non-Islamic festive greetings allowed on halal products

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has declared the 2020 ban on non-Islamic festive greetings on displayed halal products is no longer applicable.

Jakim's Facebook statement clarified that businesses holding Malaysian Halal Certification face no restrictions when it comes to inscribing celebratory messages on cake orders or similar items.

This confirmation was highlighted in their announcement on Dec 16 addressing the previously raised issue on a halal bakery who refused to write Christmas greetings on their cakes citing it was just adhering to the ruling by Jakim.

"Jakim will conduct a review and reassessment of any relevant matters within the Malaysian Halal Certification.

"The previous statement by Jakim in 2020 is not applicable in light of this clarification," said Jakim in a statement.

Yesterday, Jakim said that the organisation does not ban any halal businesses from writing non-Islamic festive greeting messages on its products.

Jakim said the issue was priorly addressed on Dec 25, 2020, and on Nov 1 this year, and reiterated they have been maintaining a consistent stance on the matter.
