Port Klang shuts its doors: Israel's ZIM ship denied entry in Malaysia, Dec 26 docking axed

KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry today confirmed that a ship operated by Israeli shipping company ZIM, scheduled to dock in Port Klang on Monday (Dec 26), is prohibited from doing so.

Its minister, Anthony Loke, said this follows the decision by the Malaysian government to impose an indefinite ban on vessels owned by Israeli shipping companies from docking at all ports in the country with immediate effect starting today.

In a statement today, Loke said the ministry has also instructed the Port Klang Authority to assist all parties affected by the decision.

"Following the statement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, vessels owned by Israeli shipping company ZIM are not allowed to dock at any Malaysian ports with immediate effect.

"This means a ship operated by the company, which is scheduled to dock in Port Klang on Dec 26, will be prohibited from doing so.

"The Port Klang Authority has been instructed to assist logistics companies, importers, exporters and shipping companies in managing cargo affected by such a decision," read the statement.

The Transport Ministry said Anwar was set to take immediate action by implementing a permanent prohibition on the company, effective immediately.

"Additionally, a ban has been imposed on ships en route to Israel from loading cargo at Malaysian ports. Both of these restrictions take immediate effect."
