Chicken wings, potato among items under Christmas' price control scheme

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 14 food items will be gazetted under the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) between Dec 23 and 27.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the 2023 Christmas SHMMP would be enforced through the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 and ensure that it is imposed on producers, wholesalers and retailers.

"The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry will conduct continuous monitoring to ensure that there are sufficient supplies.

"The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's enforcement officers will carry out continuous checks and monitoring at strategic locations nationwide, such as markets, pasar tani and shopping centres," he said in a statement today.

He warned business operators against violating the ceiling prices set, with the offence carrying a maximum fine of RM100,000 and three years' jail or issued a compound of up to RM50,000 for individuals.

Meanwhile, companies could be fined up to RM500,000 or fined a compound of up to RM250,000, he said.

"For failing to display the pink price tag on controlled goods, individuals can be fined up to RM10,000 or issued a compound of up to RM5,000, and companies can be fined up to RM20,000 or pay a compound of up to RM10,000."
