KOTA BARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Sungai Golok-Rantau Panjang Bridge project will help reduce the flood in both Malaysia and Thailand.
He said this because the project involving the depth and widening of Golok river which separates Malaysia with Thailand.
"As l have said earlier when l met Prime Minister of Thailand, Srettha Thavisin two days ago, we agreed to expedite the project as it is important not just as a matter of travel and transportation but it can help to reduce the impact caused by floods to both countries.
"In Malaysia, it can reduce the flood impact to Kelantan especially and Narathiwat in Thailand," he said.
Anwar was speaking to a Press conference after visiting flood victims at SMK Agama Lati here today.
Anwar in his recent Facebook post shared his meeting with the Prime Minister of Thailand, Srettha Thavisin, in Phuket.
He said that during his informal meeting with Srettha, they had discussed several important matters, including issues related to tourism in Malaysia and Thailand.
Anwar added Srettha and he also agreed to work closely together to develop the southern region of Thailand and the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia more rapidly, thereby ensuring economic overflow and prosperity for the people in both regions.
The bridge project is expected to be carried out in Rantau Panjang next to the Muhibbah (friendship) bridge.
The new bridge will be the second in Kelantan that links Kelantan and Sungai Golok sub-privince in Thailand.
