KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has extended its invitation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to attend the state-level Chinese New Year celebration here.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said the event on Jan 10 from 11am to 2pm, will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre, here.
"Yang di-Pertua Negeri (Tun Juhar Mahiruddin), Sabah Chief Minister (Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor) and the Prime Minister (Anwar) are expected to attend it.
"We are also anticipating a 10,000 crowd turnout on that day, which is the first day of the (Lunar) new year," she said during a press conference here.
Liew, who is also the event organising chairperson, added that the objective would be to showcase Sabah's rich cultural diversity, fostering unity and harmony among its people.
This year's celebration promises a spectacular showcase of cultural performances, including lion dances, a firecracker show, a cultural exhibition, as well as singing and dancing performances by local artists from Sabah.
