RM20 for a plate of 'ayam goreng kunyit': Owner questions intention of customer taking to social media [NSTTV]

LANGKAWI: The owner of a restaurant here is questioning the real intention of a customer who took to social media to complain about being charged RM20 for a dish of 'ayam goreng kunyit'.

Zulfan Bustami, 43, who is the owner of the restaurant in Pantai Chenang, said when taking the customer's order, the restaurant staff had given them a menu where it was clearly written that the price of the dish was RM20.

"She could see for herself the price (of food) in the menu when ordering. When she paid at the counter she didn't say anything before walking away.

"Later she takes to social media, inviting negative perceptions, what is her actual motive for doing this?

"I was not at the restaurant at the time of the incident, I only found out about it after being informed by the employees about the photos of the food and the receipt amounting to RM24 which had gone viral on social media," he said when met today.

Zulfan said he suspects that someone else, a family member or friend of the customer could have taken to social media to viral the issue.

"The customer is a local and she should be aware that the price of food around Pantai Chenang is slightly higher than other areas,  because the rental rate for shops is higher in this area," he said.

He added, the portion of the dish, priced at RM20, is enough for two people because it uses 160 grams of chicken meat, and vegetables including carrots, lettuce, long beans and onions.

"I have tried to contact the customer through the Facebook to discuss the issue, and at the same time I am ready to meet and apologise, but she has been ignoring my messages.

"Enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry visited my shop to carry out an inspection and hand over a notice at about  noon yesterday," he said.

According to Bernama, the state director of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, Affendi Rajini Kanth, confirmed that his party had carried out an inspection and submitted a notice to the restaurant.

"The notice was issued under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-profiteering Act 2011 and the owner was given two working days to respond to the notice," he said when contacted.
