KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's capital of Kuala Lumpur came in at a respectable 18th place in a recent global survey for the best cities for this year.
According to Britons Ranking, Kuala Lumpur was among the top cities that stood out in a list of 37 cities from across the globe.
Kuala Lumpur managed to finish ahead of more popular cities such as Abu Dhabi (21st), Dubai (31st) and even the most populous city in the US state of Nevada, Las Vegas (37th).
Australia's Sydney took the honours by occupying the top spot where it was praised for its 'spectacular' scenery and 'buzzing' atmosphere, followed by Cape Town in South Africa, which is surprising considering that the city has been marred by incidents of violence and gang-related crime.
American city Chicago came in third place, upstaging New York, long considered as the cultural and financial capital of the US, which failed to make it into the top ten as it came in at 14th place.
Meanwhile unsurprisingly there were a handful of other Asian cities that fared better than Kuala Lumpur, with Kyoto being the highest at 4th place, followed by Singapore (5th), another Japanese city in the form of Tokyo in 8th place, Thailand's capital of Bangkok in 12th place and Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh one place ahead of Kuala Lumpur at 17th.
Other Asian cities in the list that finished below Kuala Lumpur were Hong Kong in 19th place and another city in Vietnam, Hanoi (23rd).
The survey, published by British newspaper Daily Mail, is based on feedback from 1,800 respondents who answered based on their own experience of travelling the world outside of Europe since three years ago.
