BEKENU: The Chinese Calligraphy Contest held in Bekenu has emerged as a platform for fostering cultural appreciation and learning among various ethnic groups in Sarawak.
According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit, the contest, organised by Batu Niah Buddhist Society and hosted at the hall of SJK Chee Mung, was graced by the presence of Sarawak Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Early Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus.
"This competition is a testament to our society's cultural tolerance and a step towards preserving the art of Chinese calligraphy from fading into oblivion," Rosey said while highlighting the contest's significance.
She further appreciated the contest's role in symbolising the art of patience and self-value, contributing to the discipline and personal development of the participants.
The contest featured four categories: primary school, secondary school, open category, and non-Chinese participants, each offering trophies and cash prizes to the winners.
Datuk Rosey also took the opportunity to announce a grant of RM10,000 to the Batu Niah Buddhist Society, affirming the government's support for initiatives that promote cultural integration and understanding.
