KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader's private secretary Ahmad Ikhwan Fadhli has lodged a police report urging for an investigation into the allegations of a RM1 billion fund bribery involving Perikatan Nasional purportedly to overthrow the government.
The report was filed at the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 10.14am today, on behalf of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.
Describing the allegation as baseless slander against the opposition, he urged the authorities to utilise their expertise in tracing the blog's author.
"This police report is filed to clear the name of the Larut Member of Parliament who is alleged to be leading an attempt to bribe YDPA (Yang DiPertuan Agong).
"With this police report, it is evident this is a case of slander. I implore the police and utilise all available expertise to track down the individual who authored and disseminated this article with malicious intent," he told the reporters when met near the police station.
Expressing frustration, he highlighted the government's lack of seriousness in addressing the defamation surrounding the esteemed name of the king.
"This article was uploaded on Jan 8, and to this day, when we searched for information, it is still accessible on our phones. Now, what is the government or government supporters' response?
"Where is the Minister of Communications? Where is the Minister of Digital? Where is the Minister of Law? Nowhere to be found.
"Despite their emphasis on the 3Rs, this article, which unequivocally tarnishes the image of YDPA is left unaddressed."
Earlier, local blog published a report on Perikatan Nasional (PN) allegedly attempting to bribe the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong with RM1 billion in their efforts to topple the current government.
It is rumoured to be their final move before the new YDPA is officially appointed at the end of January.
Hamzah is said to be leading the bribery attempt.
Ikhwan also emphasised that legal action would be taken to prevent the spread of such allegations.
Meanwhile, National Armada assistant secretary Faiz Rahmad called for an end to intimidation against parliament members.
"Not only in the opposition, but all parliament members are being threatened in various ways. I am unsure about what is happening, and I am unsure about the current state of affairs in the government.
"There is significant concern, but if we misuse power, it is wrong. To threaten and coerce these independent parliament members who are free to choose and support anyone, something needs to be done from our authorities," he said.
Yesterday, the unity government spokesperson, Fahmi Fadzil assured that they take seriously the allegations made by the local blog.
He said he would shed more light on an issue and pledged to provide clarification after the cabinet meeting tomorrow.
Prime Minister's political secretary, Datuk Azman Abidin also called on the authorities to investigate claims against PN leaders.
