KUALA LUMPUR: The Pardons Board is expected to release an official statement this week regarding Datuk Seri Najib Razak's application for a royal pardon following his conviction on corruption charges and a 12-year prison sentence.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa said this here today when met by reporters at Federal Territories Day 2024 event.
"Insha-Allah, it will be announced this week," she said.
When asked about the prolonged duration in issuing the statement, Dr Zaliha urged patience from all parties, stressing on the need to wait for the official statement from the Pardons Board.
"Be patient and wait for the statement to be released," she noted.
On Wednesday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Cabinet has briefly discussed the former prime minister's application for a royal pardon during a meeting yesterday.
Saifuddin, however, kept mum when asked about when the announcement would be made.
He reiterated that the matter was not under the Cabinet's jurisdiction and that any matter pertaining to Najib's pardon was under the board itself.
