Selangor village homeowners to continue enjoying assessment tax exemption

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will continue to assist village homeowners-- especially those in need-- through an assessment tax exemption, which has benefited nearly 100,000 households at a cost of RM11.551 million last year.

Permanent Committee on Local Government chairman, Datuk Ng Suee Lim, stated that since the start of this effort, a total of 745,790 units have been granted exemptions with an allocation of RM91.498 million.

"The state government is committed to continuing assistance for village homeowners and implementing several new measures this year.

"This is to enhance facilities and the quality of the village environment as an effort to preserve the values and significance of villages in Selangor," he said in a statement.

Therefore, he mentioned that the state government will continue the exemption of assessment tax for village homeowners in need and with moderate incomes.

"To ensure the smooth running of the programme, the process will commence with the physical issuance of bills at the end of this month.

"The bill issuance process will be carried out by each respective local authority body (municipalities) in their districts to village homeowners.

"For village homeowners who meet the eligibility criteria, applications can be submitted from March 1, 2024, to May 31, 2024, and each application's decision can be checked starting from September 1, 2024."

"Community Service Centres will be ready to help expedite and streamline the application process, which will be done online and physically," he said.

He clarified that the eligibility criteria include applicants being Malaysian citizens residing in Selangor, registered owners of village homes in Selangor.

"Having a village house area of 2,000 square feet and below, with a monthly household income of RM5,000 and below.

"Applicants are eligible for only one account or one house," he said.
