KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry is set to take strict action against a newly emerged vape-like product designed to appeal specifically to school students.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said he received public alerts regarding the "energy stick", a product actively promoted and distributed across various platforms.
"I have expeditiously received direct alerts about the concerning matter (energy stick).
"Thus, I have directed the director-general and deputy director to thoroughly scrutinise the matter and enforce necessary measures.
"Regarding health issues and complaints raised on my X account, I commit to swift and decisive actions, promptly addressing the concerns," he said during today's press conference.
Earlier, it was reported that a health group expressed concerns about the availability of a new product in the market, suggesting its potential to influence both youngsters and adults towards engaging in more harmful substance use, akin to cocaine, commonly administered through nasal inhalation.
Public Health Malaysia has officially condemned the sale of this novel inhalant on its Facebook page.
The inhalant, labelled as the "energy stick", claims to provide an energised start to the day with a single snort.
The product is purported to offer a stimulating effect, with encouragement directed towards both students and adults.
It is pertinent to note that the accuracy of the seller's claim remains unverified.
Despite this, these inhalants are reportedly accessible at a notably low cost, approximately RM2.50, heightening the urgency for further investigation and regulatory measures.
