Melaka River Cruise free for Malaysians on anniversary of Independence Declaration Day

MELAKA: In conjunction with the upcoming public holiday commemorating the Declaration of Independence of the Federation of Malaya on Feb 20, the Melaka State Government is set to offer free access to several tourist attractions.

Among the highlights is the Melaka River Cruise, which will be available at no cost to all Malaysian citizens on the day.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, in a Facebook post on Feb 12, said that Perbadanan Pembangunan Sungai Dan Pantai Melaka (PPSPM) will prepare to facilitate this offer by providing 15 boats, each capable of accommodating 40 tourists.

These boats will operate from three jetties: Jeti Pengkalan Rama, Jeti Taman Rempah, and Jeti Muara. The Melaka River Cruise can be boarded from 9 am to 5 pm, with a break period from 1 pm to 2 pm, allowing visitors ample opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty of Melaka from its historic waterways.

"This promotion is exclusive to Malaysian citizens, who are required to present their MyKad/MyKid and scan a QR code provided at the boarding points.

"It's important to note that each MyKad/MyKid holder is eligible for one free boat ride. Additionally, in the spirit of national pride, visitors are encouraged to don national attire, which has been designated as the theme for the day's dress code," Ab Rauf said.
