KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is on the road to recovery after being ill with an infection.
An aide told the New Straits Times that the 98-year-old, who is Malaysia's longer-serving prime minister, is still receiving medical attention since being admitted to the National Heart Institute more than three weeks ago.
"Dr M is currently still being treated and is in the process of recovering from infection," the aide said today.
A previous report claiming that the statesman was in critical condition was refuted by a member of Dr Mahathir's inner circle.
A source had revealed yesterday that Dr Mahathir, who has a history of heart illnesses, had been admitted to IJN for treatment of an infection since Jan 26.
His health issues were revealed during proceedings for his defamation suit against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi last week.
Dr Mahathir's lawyer, Mior Nor Haidir Suhaimi in an application for a postponement of proceedings, told the court that his client had been admitted to IJN.
