Sultan Ibrahim secures 'GOLD 1' number plate with record-breaking RM1.5 million bid

KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim King of Malaysia has secured ownership of the registration number plate 'GOLD 1' after placing a winning bid of RM1.5 million for the special number.

The bid is believed to be the highest in the country's history for a registration plate.

This marks the second time that Sultan Ibrahim had broken the record for the most expensive registration number plate.

He had previously paid RM1.2 million for the registration plate FF1.

The matter was announced via a post on Sultan Ibrahim's official Instagram page today.

"The special GOLD 1 licence plate now belongs to KDYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, after placing the highest bid in the country's history at RM1.5 million, which will be channeled to the federal government," read the post.

Sultan Ibrahim had earlier today granted an audience to Transport Minister Anthony Loke at the Istana Negara.

During the audience, Loke had, via a symbolic presentation, delivered the special licence plate to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The special 'GOLD' series was unveiled on Jan 30 in conjunction with the celebration of the 50th Federal Territory Day.

The initiative was to help the Transport Ministry fund several initiatives such as the distribution of helmets to motorcyclists and Social Security Organisation contributions for taxi drivers.
