KUANTAN: Ageing sea-facing food complexes at popular locations in the state capital here have been given a new lease of life to help boost businesses and serve as a tourist attraction.
The vibrant and modern seaside business premises, some of which offer functional spaces and huge parking lots, now provide comfort to visitors.
Pahang Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff said the newly built food complexes allowed patrons to enjoy the South China Sea view while eating.
"The new food complexes are built at Pantai Cherating, Chendor, Kempadang, Batu Hitam and Taman Esplanade in Kuantan. The food stalls at Taman Esplanade located near Menara Kuantan 188 are facing Sungai Kuantan while the others are by the sea.
"Some of the existing premises which were operating for decades were completely demolished by the Kuantan City Council before it was replaced with the new complex. The new units have a modern design and each operator has adequate space to display, and serve food.
"The new premises will improve convenience for operators and provide a safer and more comfortable dining experience for patrons with roofed stalls. Customers will not need to worry about bad weather," he told reporters after opening the RM2.5 million Batu Hitam stall complex here today.
Fakhruddin said the Batu Hitam stall complex which has eight operators began construction works in 2022 and was completed last year.
Meanwhile, he said the concept adopted at Batu Hitam here was similar to the beach facing food outlets in Sydney, Australia.
"Patrons can enjoy their meals while enjoying the sea breeze. The food complex in Kuantan is already a crowd puller as it serves various traditionals dishes including the famous Mee Calong Beserah," he said.
Meanwhile, Fakhruddin said the new look food complex would also serve as a tourist destination and allow those travelling to the state capital to stop and eat.
