Kelantan ruler thanks federal govt for river basin development allocations

KOTA BARU: Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V today thanked the federal government for approving the allocations for the Sungai Kelantan and Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin Development projects.

The ruler said the allocations would ensure continuity for Phase 2 of the project in the former and Phase 3 in the latter.

"I am very sympathatic with the people who have been affected by the recent flood disaster. A comprehensive solution should be come up with as soon as possible to tackle the problem.

"I was informed that the implementation progress for the two projects are on level four which is 92 per cent and for that, l would like to thank the federal government for approving the allocation to speed up the projects," he said.

Sultan Muhammad said this during his royal address at the opening of the state legislative assembly sitting at the Darulnaim Complex here today.

His speech was read by Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

On another matter, Sultan Muhammad said he could see serious efforts taken by both state and federal governments in solving the water supply problems through the preparation and distribution of the special allocations.

"I would like to share here among the water supply projects that will beneficial the people.

"It includes the constuction of water treatment plant projects in Manek Urai and Laloh, both in Kuala Krai, and the construction of a riverside water reservoir with the capacity of 500 millions littres per day in Mukim Joh, Machang," he said.

Sultan Muhammad said he was happy to see the latest achievement on the upgrading and expansion works of Sultan Ismail Petra airport's project as it has followed the schedule.

"However, l hope refueling services can be provided so that aviation industry service in the state can be improved.

"With the support of integrated public transportation networks, such as the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, l believe the people will get enjoy more and better socio-economic growth," he added.
