People losing confidence in the government, claims Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin claims the public is losing confidence in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration.

The former prime minister said there was a lack of confidence in the ringgit as the country's foreign currency deposits hit a record high of RM250 billion as of July 2023.

"The public's lack of confidence in the stability of the ringgit is evident, with concerns about its continued depreciation. Despite government assurances, why does this doubt persist?

"If you ask me, it's clear people no longer believe in the prime minister's capability to steer the nation's economy," he told the Dewan Rakyat.

Muhyiddin (PN-Pagoh) said old videos of Anwar criticising previous administrations were going viral again.

"Now, the people are telling him that 'you are the one who does not know how to govern'."

He said the prime minister should honour the promises he made to the people by resolving the country's problems.

"Tambun (Anwar) was great at making promises when he was in the opposition. Now, people are looking for that person from the past."

Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) intervened, asking him if he agreed that the prime minister should ask the finance minister (Anwar) to step down.

Muhyiddin agreed but expressed doubt that it would happen.
