ALOR STAR: There is more than enough chicken supply to meet demand for Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri in Kedah.
In fact, Bismi Empire Sdn Bhd (Ayam Bismi) chairman Jaffri Ahmad said that the chicken supplier would increase the supply by at least 25 per cent in the coming weeks.
"We are not sure whether demand will be much higher but we are ready to make any adjustments.
"Our operations can sustain it, and we are not affected by the recent sales and services tax hike," he said during a press conference after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) at the company's headquarters here today.
Also present were Fama chairman Aminuddin Zulkifli and Ayam Bismi managing director Mazlina Kamarudin.
Jaffri said the collaboration with Fama involved Ayam Bismi providing 60 metric tonnes of birds for Fama's marketing this year.
"This collaboration aims to ensure the nation's food security by supplying halal processed chicken to consumers.
"Ayam Bismi also has a halal slaughterhouse certified by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department and possesses the MeSTI certification, a food safety certification recognised by the Health Ministry," he said.
Aminuddin said that other food items were also guaranteed to meet consumer demans during this fasting month.
