PUTRAJAYA: The Academic Session Final Test (UASA) mastery level system will transition to using a percentage and grade structure, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
This decision follows an assessment of feedback from various stakeholders, including parents and teachers, regarding concerns with the existing curriculum.
In addition to this change, Fadhlina said that reporting for classroom-based assessment (PBD) will be simplified and made accessible online for parents through the Integrated Assessment Management System.
"The PBD mastery level report will be simplified, and the UASA mastery level report for all subjects will adopt a percentage and grade format," she explained during the announcement of the Ministry's curriculum interventions to address learning gaps among school children.
Fadhlina also highlighted that Year One pupils will undergo a literacy and numeracy detection program aimed at identifying those who have not yet mastered fundamental skills in reading, writing, and counting, known as the 3M skills.
Among the measures introduced by Fadhlina is the release of the KSSR Alignment Document (Revision 2017) Edition 3 for Science and Mathematics Level One subjects. This involves updating and reorganising the content of existing Level One Science and Mathematics lessons, applicable to Years One to Three.
Fadhlina emphasised that this document serves as an optional resource for teachers in implementing the primary school curriculum and can be used alongside the Level One Science and Mathematics Guidance Module.
While the focus is currently on Science and Mathematics, Fadhlina added that plans for similar revisions in Bahasa Malaysia and English, with information to be disseminated to primary school teachers through workshops and training sessions.
"These interventions aim to provide a balanced approach and support for our teachers, parents, and pupils to master these subjects, particularly Mathematics and Science," she said, noting that the new curriculum will be implemented in 2027.
