Nga criticises Akmal for disregarding 'Madani spirit' in 'Allah' socks controversy

PETALING JAYA: Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming has criticised Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh for disregarding the "Madani spirit" in his response to a convenience store selling socks with the name of "Allah" printed on it.

He advised Akmal to refrain from inciting religious and racial sentiments, describing such tactics as outdated, according to a media report.

"As a member of the government, his actions have violated the principles of the 'Madani spirit'," Nga stated, alluding to the value of compassion central to the 'Madani spirit'.

Earlier, Akmal told FMT that an apology from KK Mart was not enough.

Expressing concern over the insufficient grasp of the issue's seriousness by some parties, the Merlimau assemblyman highlighted the frustration within the Muslim community.

"It cannot be resolved with just an apology. Firm action must be taken to serve as a lesson for others," he was quoted as saying.

Nga, who is also a DAP vice chairman said Akmal should not fan racial and religious sentiments "with such an arrogant attitude", adding that such behaviour was harmful and unproductive.

"I hope he will reflect upon his actions and stop causing trouble for the government," he said
