KUALA LUMPUR: Individuals who do not update their information in the Central Database Hub (Padu) may miss out on receiving government assistance and subsidies.

Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, however, said the government had alternative methods that could be utilised through the integration of administrative data from various public sector agencies.

"As of March 12, Padu has integrated 314 data sets from various agencies, which form the basis for creating a comprehensive individual profile.

"This includes information on 8.6 million Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah recipients for the B40 group," she said in reply to a question from Shafizan Kepli (GPS-Batang Lupar).

Shafizan asked about the alternatives for individuals who are unable to register in the Padu system for various reasons.

Hanifah said as of yesterday, nearly 6.03 million or 27.4 per cent of Malaysian citizens and permanent residents had registered with Padu.

"The government has implemented various initiatives to enhance registration and updates in Padu, particularly for people in rural and remote areas.

"Therefore, we urge the support and cooperation of all parties to increase registration efforts in the Padu system."

Padu was launched on Jan 2 and the public is given until March 31 to register and update their particulars in the system before the implementation of the second phase involving algorithm development based on use case needs from April to June this year.

The implementation of Padu is to strengthen governance and improve policy planning and implementation based on data.

Padu is not focused solely on retargeting subsidies and aid but is also aimed at identifying the people's socioeconomic standings more comprehensively.
