Malaysia's economy getting stronger but there is still room for improvement, says PM

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said there is still room for improvement although the country is showing signs of positive economic growth.

Such a development, said the prime minister, was reflected in a number of indicators including the amount of foreign investment obtained by the country.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said Malaysia attracted potential foreign investment amounting to RM76.1 billion as of this month.

"This included the success of our trade and investment mission in Australia as well as France and Germany," said Anwar in his speech during the Finance Ministry's monthly assembly here today.

Malaysia's economy, said Anwar, is expected to become stronger and projected to grow between four and five per cent in 2024.

Anwar added that the country's unemployment rate dropped and returned to the pre-pandemic era to 3.3 per cent in January this year.

The country's exports in January this year, he said, is also showing signs of recovery after it increased to 8.7 per cent.
