Storm damages 5 houses in Sungai Petani

SUNGAI PETANI: Five houses with a total of 17 occupants in three nearby villages suffered roof damage during yesterday evening's storm.

District Civil Defence (APM) officer, Captain Azahar Ahmad, stated that the first damage occured at a house in Kampung Paya occupied by a 31-year-old man.

"The second incident was reported around 5 pm in Kampung Permatang Pasir, involving a house inhabited by six families," he said in a statement today.

As at 6 pm yesterday, another three houses with 10 occupants in Kampung Alor Bemban were reported to have been hit by the storm, he added.

"However, the situation is under control, and there were no casualties reported, but the storm destroyed the roofs of all the houses.

"No evacuation centres were opened, and we have provided the National Disaster Management Agency's emergency food aid kits to the victims," he said. – Bernama
