GEORGE TOWN: The Penang City Council's disaster management team is ready to respond to any emergencies following the unpredictable weather since yesterday during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday season.
In a statement, the council said the disaster management team comprises members of the Landscape Department, Enforcement Department, Municipal Services Department, Engineering Department, and its Complaint Management Division.
It also stated that incidents of fallen trees and large tree branches breaking due to heavy rain and strong winds have been reported in 13 locations in the North-East and South-West areas of Penang.
"Among the locations reported are Jalan Brown, Lebuh Union, Kampung Rawa (Off Jalan Patani), York Hall, Jalan Thomas (Bukit Dumbar), Tingkat Batu Uban 3, Mutiara Perdana, Hilir Pemancar, Lorong Erskine, Sungai Dua, Pesara Mahsuri, Medan Fetter, and Batu Feringghi.
"The cutting, moving, and cleaning of most of the affected areas have been completed, while areas requiring large equipment and machinery will be addressed as soon as possible," the statement read.

The council also expressed appreciation to the Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force for their assistance in cutting, moving, and cleaning the affected areas.
