MELAKA: Four out of 12 cars, which make up the grand prizes of a lucky draw in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024), will be won by lucky recipients at a special event on April 21.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the state government will be announcing the names of the winners, comprising visitors and tourists who had patronised and shopped at the state's tourism spots.
He said the participants had entered the competition by depositing their entry coupons in special boxes.
"This marks the first draw since TMM2024 began. We have prepared one car each month as part of the prizes. The mega draw will be held on April 21 to determine the first four winners of the grand prizes.
"Since its launch this year, we have received a large number of entries. The draw will be made once every three months," he said.
Ab Rauf was speaking to reporters after attending the 100th anniversary celebration of Villa Sentosa, which was officiated by Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam in Kampung Morten, here today.
Also present were state Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture exco Datuk Abd Razak Abd Rahman.
Ab Rauf said Melaka recorded 3.7 million tourist arrivals for the first three months of the year in conjunction with TMM2024.
He said figures showed that an average of 70,000 vehicles entered the state each weekend, thus contributing to the tourist arrivals.
He is confident that the state can achieve its aim of drawing 18.7 million visitors and tourists to Melaka in conjunction with TMM2024.
Meanwhile, Ab Rauf expressed hope that the people would come together to preserve the state's cultural heritage and ensure that its history is preserved for the coming generations.
"As such, I wish to reinvigorate the history of Villa Sentosa, which was among the earliest traditional Malay architectures in Melaka, which can further draw visitors and realise our goal of securing 18.7 million visitors for TMM2024."
