PM says Akmal's criticism of Nga "improper"

SHAH ALAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Umno Youth chief Muhamad Akmal Saleh's criticism of Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming was "improper" in the context of the unity government.

Commenting on Akmal's statement, in which the latter had called Nga "stupid" and responsible for the poor economy, the prime minister said everyone in the unity government should work together.

"I don't entertain such statements. To my mind, it's not proper in the context of our unity government. We should work together," Anwar briefly said to reporters at a press conference in Shah Alam.

Akmal had previously denied that the boycott campaigns he had advocated were affecting the economy.

Instead, Akmal said it was because of "stupid" ministers" such as Nga that the economy was performing poorly.

Nga had previously on social media said that the boycott campaign by irresponsible parties had ultimately led to Malaysian workers suffering the consequences.

Nga had also advised the public not to be tricked into the boycott campaign trap by instigators.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Dr Akmal said he will abide by the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim's decree on upholding the country's unity and harmony.

Akmal had vowed to uphold the King's decree to maintain the harmony of the country and preserve the purity of the Islamic religion to calm the ongoing polemic.

Akmal was among the most vocal critics of convenience store chain KK Mart when one of its outlets were found to have sold socks bearing the word 'Allah' on them.
