Rafidah calls for action against politicians undermining national unity

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has been urged to take stern action against politicians who continuously stir national unity for their political objectives.

In a Facebook post today, former international, trade and industry minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz described the politicians as "stumbling blocks" to national unity.

She also claimed that such individuals stirred up controversial issues to divide Malaysians without considering the negative consequences of their actions.

Following this, she added that Malaysia would also lose out and be perceived as a "rudderless" nation influenced by narrow-minded little Napoleons if nothing concrete is being done to stop such divisive action.

"Driven by inflated egos and obvious 'chest-thumping' displays of assumed power and importance, there are those who simply act without regard for the negative consequences, especially the divisiveness and fractiousness within society.

"If nothing is done, it will also give the impression that they (the politicians) are holding the leaders in the coalition government to ransom," she said.

Rafidah, who is also former Wanita Umno chief said the government could not afford to be continuously distressed and distracted by unnecessary issues created and purposely fanned by people with their political objectives, but at the expense of the people and nation.

"There is no doubt that the vast majority of people in Malaysia want and strive to live in a peaceful environment.

"(Hence), we must make sure that no one and nothing should break us apart. There is absolutely no place in Malaysia for those who cannot accept our diversity which is our source of strength and those who have tiny minds but large inflated egos."
