GEORGE TOWN: The arrival of Commander Muhammad Firdaus Ramli's remains at Masjid Jamek Sungai Nibong Besar here marks a solemn moment as prayers are offered before his burial at the adjacent cemetery.
The hearse bearing his coffin arrived at 7.41pm, greeted by a gathering of mourners that included more than 1,000 individuals, some of whom arrived as early as 5pm.
Notable figures paying their respects included state executive councillors Fahmi Zainol and Lim Siew Khim, alongside Royal Malaysian Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ayob and Division Two General Major General Datuk Azhan Md Othman.
Firdaus, the commanding officer of the navy's 503 Squadron, was among the 10 individuals tragically killed in a mid-air collision involving two helicopters at the RMN base in Lumut yesterday.
Earlier today, the post-mortem examinations of all 10 victims were concluded at 2.20pm.
Subsequently, the bodies of Muslim victims were transported to the 23rd Battalion Regiment of the Royal Malay Regiment in Ipoh for funeral prayers.
The late Lieutenant T. Sivasutan's remains were conveyed to the family residence in Sitiawan, Perak, where burial rites will take place tomorrow. Likewise, the body of Chief Petty Officer Joanna Felicia was repatriated to Serian, Sarawak, aboard a C-130 aircraft belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
