GEORGE TOWN: A fruit vendor's pursuit of a steady job to provide for his family saw him bringing along his wife and four children to the Career Carnival in conjunction with the 2024 Northern Zone MADANI Rakyat Programme at the Tapak Pesta Sungai Nibong, near here, today.
Muhammad Rahimi Abdul Rahman, 33, said he, his wife and their four children, aged between three months and seven years, left their home in Kulim, Kedah at 7 am by car.
He said he wanted to find a stable and permanent job at the career carnival since his income from the fruit business was not fixed.
"I had a job but quit a long time ago and started a business. Now I want to go back to work in a factory. (Income from) Business is uncertain, if business is brisk it's okay, otherwise there's no money.
"Working in a factory means there's permanent income and there's EPF (Employees Provident Fund) contribution. I want to support my family, my children have started schooling, I hope to find a job here," he said.
A Bernama survey found that many visitors, mostly youths, thronged the carnival, which offers more than 1,500 jobs.
Meanwhile, Siti Solehah Khalid and her husband Mohd Ronie Abdullah, who are both 40 and hearing-impaired, also grabbed the opportunity to try their luck at the career carnival, which also offers job opportunities to persons with disabilities (PwD).
Siti Solehah said through an interpreter that she and her husband came by motorcycle from Butterworth and queued up from 8 am to register for the carnival.
"What I see here is that there is a booth for hearing-impaired people, so there is acceptance here. I hope that with there being such opportunities, PwD like us can get a job today," she said. – BERNAMA
