'No Palm Oil' chocolates worth almost RM24,000 seized in Labuan

LABUAN: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry seized 1,134 chocolate products worth RM23,704 which carried the 'No Palm Oil' and 'Palm Oil-Free' labels at two separate premises here yesterday.

A statement from the Labuan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry on Facebook said checks were conducted in several premises in town.

"A team of enforcement personnel from the ministry's Labuan branch conducted a raid after it found that a supermarket was selling food products (chocolates) that used the 'No Palm Oil' or 'Palm Oil-Free' description.

"The case is investigated under the Trade Descriptions (Prohibition of use of Statement, Expression or Indication) (Oil Palm Product and Palm Oil Goods) Regulations 2022.

"Upon conviction, a person could be fined up to RM250,000 or jailed up to five years," it said.

Authorities are taking strict action against any retailer, wholesaler and importer who sells, distributes or imports products that boycott palm oil.

This was done following aggressive boycotting of palm oil products in certain countries.
