Standardised assessments for Sarawak's Primary 6 and Form 3 students

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Ministry for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) has drawn a comprehensive plan to carry out standardised assessments for Primary 6 pupils beginning 2025 and Form 3 students by 2028.

According to a Borneo Post Online report, its Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said these assessments will only involve English, Mathematics, and Science.

He said these subjects will be taught in English under the Dual Language Programme (DLP) Sarawak and in a series of discussions with international assessment providers which is due to be concluded soon.

Wee said this is also in tandem with World Bank recommendations to implement an assessment system that aligns local instruments and grading with international standards.

He said that a successful school-based assessment system requires a multi-pronged approach to strengthen the entire education system.

This includes upskilling teachers, bolstering infrastructure and facilities, providing essential resources, bridging connectivity gaps, and curriculum.

"I have, and so have many of us here, gone through a series of robust standardised assessments and examinations during our school days.

"It worked well and, maybe, when the time is right with considerable achievement in development, ample teachers' professional development opportunities, the School-Based Assessment may be implemented," he said.
