King to grace National Landscape Day launch

PUTRAJAYA: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia has consented to grace the launch of National Landscape Day (HLN) at Taman Tasik Shah Alam on May 25.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the event is aimed at raising landscape awareness, especially among the younger generation, as well as to educate the public on important role it plays in sustainable living.

"We estimate some 50,000 visitors throughout the 10-day event.

"Themed 'Industri Landskap Pemacu Pembangunan Madani', HLN reflects the continuity of efforts carried out by the ministry to empower the industry in realising landscape as a new source of income for the country," he said at the National Landscape Day soft launch at Anjung Floria, the China-Malaysia Friendship Garden, here, today.

He said landscape industry in Malaysia is valued at RM29 billion and events such as HLN would further help promote services and products offered by players.

Held in collaboration between the National Landscape Department and Shah Alam City Council from May 24 to June 2, it would see various competitions and activities organised for visitors, he said.

Among them are a live cooking demonstration, mural drawing, flower arrangement competition and industry dialogue.

The ministry, through the department, would continue to enhance the landscape industry through strengthening cooperation to improve the roles of landscape industry players.
