KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno Supreme Council member has called for Mohd Shukri Ramli to resign as Perlis Menteri Besar after his son was charged with submitting false claims today.
Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said such crimes would not have happened if Shukri was not the Menteri Besar.
"Whatever it is, Shukri should step down as the Perlis Menteri Besar. Such crimes would not have happened if Shukri was not the Menteri Besar.
"The Perlis state administration is weak.
"Fortunately, there are no major projects to embezzle (in Perlis). With a weak administration that is easily deceived, Perlis will fall further behind," Puad said in a social media post on his Facebook account.
Earlier today, Shukri's son, Mohd Syafeeq, claimed trial to a charge of submitting false claims for the supply of drinks for the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail worth RM19,505.10 in February.
Mohd Syafeeq, 35, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read before Judge Norsalha Hamzah by the court interpreter.
He is alleged to have submitted a government supply document under the name Mohd Farid Abdul Hamid, worth RM19,505.10, for the supply of drinks to Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, despite knowing that it contained false details on Feb 19, 2024.
The charge was framed under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
