JOHOR BARU: Three people were killed when the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a 2m-deep ditch in the Sultan Iskandar Highway here today.
The victims were identified as Chu Wei Yean, 27, Aw Siew Chern, 35, and Chu Wan Rou, 30.
Johor Baru (north) deputy police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said it was believed that Wan Rou, 30, had lost control of the MPV and veered to the left side of the road at 8.10am.
It was raining and the vehicle plunged into the ditch, which was filled with water due to the downpour.
Wan Rou, her brother Wei Yean, and his female friend Aw were suspected to have died of internal bleeding.
The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
