SHAH ALAM: Water flowing through Sungai Kandis turned blue yesterday after what was believed to be paint-dumping at an industrial area in Jalan Omboh.
The matter was first detected about 12.30pm in an area near Jalan Sellathevan in Klang.
A team from Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (Luas) was immediately despatched to the scene.
Luas said investigations in the area was focused on tracing the source of the incident.
"The water in the area was blue and this flowed into a drain which, in turn, flowed into the river.
"Luas took samples of the water and sent this to the Chemistry Department for analysis," it said in a Facebook post.
It said an investigation paper was opened under Section 79(1)(c) of the Luas Enactment 1999 for pollution of a water resources.
It added that it was in commmunications with the Department of Environment and the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) for enforcement actions based on each agency's respective jurisdictions.
"The Selangor government and Luas call upon owners of all premises and industrial areas to aware, vigilant and concerned about activities in their areas.
"Ensure activities, operations, safety and maintenance of all equipment at your premises are monitored so that there is no risk to water sources, especially rivers," it said.
