JOHOR BARU: The implementation of QR codes at the Johor Baru-Singapore entrance near Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI), initially scheduled to commence yesterday, has been postponed for two weeks.
State Works, Transportation, Infrastructure, and Communication Committee Chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the QR code at BSI is currently in the process of completing the application by the vendor using MyRentas.
He said that currently, the use of QR codes for Immigration Department inspections is only used at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) for the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link.
"QR codes usage started at KSAB on June 1, where Malaysian citizens who use buses and motorcycles do the MyTrip registration found in the MySejahtera application.
"Alhamdulillah, the use of QR codes at KSAB went smoothly during the trial period. So far there have not been any significant technical issues.
"However, at BSI involving the Johor Causeway route, the vendor is still finalising the MyRentas application and it is expected to be able to be used in another two weeks," he said when met at Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad here, yesterday.
Mohamad Fazli hoped that travellers between the two countries (Malaysia and Singapore) could try and upload the application for the QR codes usage.
He said during the Proof of Concept (PoC) period at KSAB, it is expected to save travellers three to five seconds.
"We hope all travellers can try and give feedback on the initiative involved, which is a government effort to deal with congestion at the two entry points, namely BSI and KSAB," he said.
Yesterday, State Immigration acting director Mohd Faizal Shamsudin said travellers using the QR code-based immigration clearance at the KSAB here to enter Singapore have given it the thumbs up.
Faizal said the operations were smooth and that travellers had given positive feedback on using the QR code at the complex's Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (CIQS) area.
For the first phase, the QR code implementation can only be used by Malaysians who board buses and ride motorcycles at KSAB by registering MyTrip found in the MySejahtera application.
He said for a start, for the Motorcycle Zone route, five counters were opened at the entrance and five counters at the exit, while in the Bus Hall there were four counters at the exit and four at the entrance.
